About this calculator
Marketplace selling looks profitable until every fee lands: category commission, fixed per-order fees, payment processing, postage. This calculator stacks all of them against your selling price so you see the true profit per sale and the margin that survives — the number that decides whether an ad campaign or a price cut makes sense.
The formula
Worked example
Selling at £24.99: cost £8.50, postage £3.20, 15% fee + £0.30 fixed:
- Fees = £3.75 + £0.30 = £4.05
- Profit = 24.99 − 8.50 − 3.20 − 4.05 = £9.24 (37% margin)
Common mistakes
- Forgetting payment processing where it isn't bundled into the marketplace fee.
- Using supplier price instead of landed cost (freight, duty, packaging).
- Ignoring returns — knock the expected return-rate cost off before celebrating the margin.
