About this calculator

From start time, finish time and unpaid breaks, this calculator builds your paid hours per day, week, month and year — the figures behind timesheets, part-time contracts, and checking your real hourly rate against the minimum wage. Overnight shifts are handled automatically.

The formula

Daily = (Finish − Start − Break) Weekly = Daily × Days per week Annual = Weekly × 52; Monthly = Annual ÷ 12

Worked example

09:00–17:30 with 30 minutes unpaid: 8 hours/day, 40/week, 173.3/month, 2,080/year.

Common mistakes

Counting unpaid lunch as working time when comparing salaries.
Multiplying weekly hours by 4 for a month — the average month is 4.33 weeks.
Ignoring that regular unpaid overtime silently cuts your true hourly rate.

Frequently asked questions

Most full-time contracts are 35–40 hours per week; 37.5 (9–5:30 with an hour, or 9–5 with 30 minutes) is the most common.

UK workers get a 20-minute rest break when working over 6 hours — whether it's paid is up to the contract.

The Working Time Regulations cap the average week at 48 hours (over 17 weeks) unless you opt out in writing.

Assumptions & limitations

52 paid weeks; holiday weeks count at normal hours since they're paid.
