Average Order Value Calculator

AOV from revenue and orders — the lever that makes every ad click worth more.

Your inputs are sent to our server to calculate the result and are not intentionally retained. See our privacy policy.

About this calculator

Average order value is total revenue divided by orders — and it's the growth lever that doesn't need more traffic. Every pound added to AOV flows through the same ad spend, which is why bundles and free-shipping thresholds are so effective. Add the optional items count to see basket composition too.

The formula

AOV = Revenue ÷ Orders Items per order = Items ÷ Orders

Worked example

£12,500 over 380 orders = AOV £32.89. A free-shipping threshold at £40 targets exactly this gap.

Common mistakes

  • Including cancelled or refunded orders in the revenue figure.
  • Comparing AOV across periods with different discount activity.
  • Raising AOV with discounts so deep the extra basket value is unprofitable.

Frequently asked questions

Free-shipping thresholds just above current AOV, bundles, volume pricing, and post-purchase one-click upsells are the standard toolkit.

Pick one basis (most use product revenue ex-VAT, ex-shipping) and keep it consistent.

There is no universal number — what matters is AOV relative to your CAC and margin. The calculator shows what a 10% lift is worth on your own figures.

Assumptions & limitations

Straight mean; a few very large orders can skew it, so check the median in your analytics too.
