Running Pace Calculator
Pace per km and per mile, speed, and projected times from a distance and time.
About this calculator
Runners plan in pace — minutes per kilometre or mile — but races give you distance and finishing time. This calculator converts between them, shows your speed, and projects the same pace across common race distances so you can sanity-check a target: if your 5K pace projects to a marathon time you've never approached, the target needs work.
The formula
Worked example
5K in 27:00: pace 5:24 /km (8:41 /mile), 11.11 km/h — projecting 54:00 for 10K at the same pace.
Common mistakes
- Assuming race pace holds across double the distance — endurance fades; projections are best-case.
- Confusing pace (min/km) with speed (km/h) on treadmill displays.
- Setting a target pace from your best-ever run rather than a recent typical one.
Frequently asked questions
Assumptions & limitations
Constant pace; real races involve fade, hills and crowds.

This calculator applies the standard formula published above to the figures you enter — it relies on no external statutory data. The formula and the worked example were checked by hand against each other.
