About this calculator

The classic remote-work failure: a meeting agreed for "3pm" that lands at 3am for someone. This planner converts a specific date and time between world time zones with daylight saving applied for that exact date — the part mental arithmetic gets wrong twice a year, because the UK, US and Australia change their clocks on different weekends.

The formula

Converted time = source time re-expressed in the target zone's UTC offset (offsets depend on the DATE because of daylight saving)

Worked example

14:00 in London on 18 July 2026 is 09:00 in New York (5 hours behind in summer) — in January the same meeting is 4.30pm… no, 9:00 becomes 09:00 EST with London on GMT, i.e. the gap changes from 5 to 5 hours only when both have switched; across the change weekends it is briefly 4.

Common mistakes

Applying a remembered offset year-round — DST shifts the gap for a few weeks each spring and autumn.
Quoting a meeting in an abbreviation like CST that means three different zones worldwide.
Forgetting the date line: afternoon in London is already tomorrow morning in Auckland.
